Dedicated to the beautiful memories of our founders, Mary
Ann Bertucci Rosso, born in Simbario, Italy, and Arthur Natale Squitti born in Port Arthur, now part of Thunder Bay.
The foundation will help and support the family unit, including orphans and widows and widowers supporting children, their basics and their education.
In memory of Maryann Squitti, Squitti's has been driven by a concern for the community. In 1954 Maryann Squitti came to Canada, age 36, to help her sister, Angelina Bertucci, (later owned Bertucci's Grocery, 64 Secord Street), was dying in hospital. Exploratory surgeery had found cancer, leaving her to die, incision left open. Maryann told the doctors to, 'take out what you can, give her the strongest antibiotics" and would look after her; Angleina died in 2013, aged 97.
In the center of this picture is Nonna Concetta Bertucci Rosso, on the right side holding book, is Mary Ann Bertucci Rosso, and on the left side, Concetta Rosso.
Picture from the past...
In the center left, is our mother, Mary Ann, next to her sister, Mariangela, with brother Vincent Rosso, right side end, with his wife Angelina on the left end.
Mother came to Port Arthur to attend to her her sister, Mariangela who was in hospital, with cancer being found.
Here while Maryann was working as the cook at Vi's Restaurant on Bay Street that she met Dad, Arthur Squitti, who was born in Port Arthur, Canada.
Maryann was working at Vi's Restaurant as a cook to raise funds to travel back to Italy. Her mother died, and she met Arthur Natale Squitti, was born in Pot Arthur; he owned a taxi-cab . Years later it was discovered that he was part of the Nobility of Italy, leaving Italy before the 1st world war.
The need to rediscover simple truths ! Time to discover the differences between truths, the truth we know and the whole TRUTH.
We are taught many truths at school, We must learn that sometimes these truths fail to acknowledge the whole truth, or come to the correct logical conclusions.
This foundation will be operated by volunteers whose lives have shown a true compassion for the working poor and the sick.
